From City to Safari: My South Africa Escape That Had It All

There are some places I return to again and again—not because I’ve run out of new places to explore, but because they keep revealing something new. South Africa is one of those places.

Earlier this year, I spent time exploring one of my favorite corners of the world—from the vineyards of the Cape Winelands to the wild heart of safari country. It was a mix of business and inspiration, but more than that, it reminded me why I love this destination so much.

If South Africa isn’t already on your list, this is your sign. Here’s a peek inside my recent journey—and why I think this country offers one of the most dynamic, meaningful, and luxurious travel experiences on earth.

Start in the Winelands: Lanzerac Luxury & Wellness

Our first stop: Lanzerac, a historic wine estate in Stellenbosch that somehow manages to feel both grand and grounded. Mornings started slow—with spa treatments and vineyard views—and ended with sunset cellar tours, a fireside braai dinner, and post-dinner drinks that lingered long into the night.

Why it works for travelers: This isn’t just a wine tasting—it’s a reset. It’s slow living wrapped in elegance, ideal for couples, honeymooners, or anyone who wants to land in South Africa feeling both grounded and pampered.

Cape Town: A City That Feels Like a Breath of Fresh Air

Next up was Cape Town, where we balanced immersive conference days at We Are Africa with a peaceful stay just outside the buzz at Future Found Sanctuary. This property is close enough to access everything the city offers—but far enough to exhale deeply between activities.

If you’ve never been to Cape Town, it’s a place where mountains meet the ocean, where food and design are world-class, and where even a hike or market stroll feels cinematic.

Why it works for travelers: It’s the best of both worlds. Boutique city experiences + spa-like serenity. And for those who want a taste of it all without the hustle of big cities, Cape Town does it beautifully.

Go Wild: Safari Done the Milk + Honey Way

From there, it was off to Thornybush Game Reserve for stays at Saseka Tented Camp and Jabulani—two lodges that couldn’t have been more different, and yet both were equally extraordinary.

At Saseka, my tent overlooked a dry riverbed where elephants would pass through at sunrise. At Jabulani, the focus was conservation, storytelling, and intimate service that made you feel like part of something bigger than yourself.

Game drives, sundowners, firelit dinners—yes, all of that. But also: the peace that only comes when you’re surrounded by nature, with nothing on your schedule but awe.

Why it works for travelers: Safari isn’t just about wildlife. It’s about being present. Being still. And being cared for in a way that’s incredibly personal. We design these experiences to match your comfort level, travel style, and what you want to feel when you’re there.

What Makes South Africa Special? The Range.

South Africa isn’t a one-note destination. You can pair wellness and wine, urban energy and coastal calm, bucket-list safari with hidden gem moments that can’t be Googled.

It’s also incredibly well set up for luxury travelers—with stunning boutique properties, private guides, and seamless logistics (especially when you have someone like us orchestrating every step behind the scenes 😉).

Thinking About Your Own Trip? Here’s What I’d Recommend:

  • Perfect Trip Length: 10–12 days

  • Best Time to Go: April to October (dry season = ideal for safari)

  • Who It’s Great For: Honeymooners, milestone travelers, first-time safari-goers, seasoned explorers who want something soul-stirring
Pair It With: Victoria Falls, the Okavango Delta, or even Mauritius for beach time

If you’ve been dreaming about a trip that’s luxurious, immersive, and deeply personal—South Africa might just be your match. Whether you're ready to toast under the stars on safari or sip wine in a centuries-old vineyard, we’ll make sure every moment feels like it was designed just for you.
