San Diego, CA

A big city with a small town feel, San Diego packs in fun for everyone. It feels like a collection of villages each with its own personality and we’re hard-pressed to think of a more laid-back place. Don’t miss sampling the area's signature Cali Baja cuisine or tasting one of the hundreds of craft beers and wines bottled in the region. Often referred to as the “Smithsonian of the West,” Balboa Park features 17 museums, numerous galleries and performing arts venues as well as the San Diego Zoo. Miles of golden beaches and good surf, a ton of history, a great nightlife and America's most perfect weather - trust us, pretty soon you'll be looking to move.

Milk & Honey Tip

Cross the famous blue bridge to Coronado, San Diego’s island resort town. It’s idyllic and you will swoon over the beautiful houses here.

Eat

The best neighborhood for foodies is definitely Little Italy, where you’ll be able to experience all types of incredible food, cocktails, and desserts.  From authentic Italian food at Buon Appetito, inventive dishes and delicious cocktails at Craft + Commerce, and desserts so beautiful you’ll be hesitant to dig in (but you must!), at extraordinary desserts -- there is something for every palette here.

Play

Our favorite way to spend a Saturday morning is strolling Little Italy Mercato Farmers’ Market every Saturday from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., where over 200 tents line W. Date Street from Kettner Boulevard to Front Street. The options are endless—you can enjoy an incredible selection of farm fresh produce, pastured eggs and poultry, meat, fish, flowers, local artisan food and more! Find food purveyors with sauces and relish, oysters, coffee beans, spices and more, and plants including orchids, fresh flowers, and bedding plants. Dine on crepes, paninis, green smoothies, lemonade and local chefs’ specialties accompanied by live music.

Sleep

Tower 23 [Boutique]

Despite the name, Tower 23 is no high-rise — this 44-room compound is named after a lifeguard tower on Pacific Beach. Inside it’s more fashionista than beach bum, however, with the sort of pared-down minimalist décor we’re more accustomed to seeing in Hollywood or Miami. Jordan, the restaurant, serves steak and seafood in a beachfront space by the architect Graham Downes, and the open-air Tower Deck upstairs serves drinks and lighter fare to hotel guests only.

San Diego Hotel del Coronado Pool

Hotel del Coronado

[Luxury]

Poised oceanfront on one of America's best beaches, the iconic Hotel del Coronado has welcomed discerning travelers for more than 130 years. Here, the magic and nostalgia of the beach resort's storied past blends seamlessly with freshly designed interiors and contemporary amenities — from endless recreational activities and holistic spa experiences to private chefs and exquisite oceanfront dining.

San Diego Pendry Rooftop Lounge

Pendry [Boutique]

You’ll get a luxurious experience, with custom furnishings, Fili D’oro linens, MiN New York bath products, 50-inch televisions, and Bluetooth sound systems, whether you’re in a standard Superior room or a 1,500-square-foot Luxury Suite. There’s a fairly expansive spa as well. And the common spaces are what really make the Pendry, from dinner at Lionfish, helmed by one of San Diego’s most promising young chefs, to posh cocktail bars Fifth & Rose and the Oxford Social Club. And if your Southern California experience is limited to Los Angeles, you’ll be delighted to find out that San Diego is compact, even walkable — the Gaslamp District has most of what you need, and is close by to everything else.
